Healing liver damage is a simple four step program. You can start all four steps at the same time or add one at a time. You need to discover what works best for you – diving right into a new program or slowly integrating it into your life.
The same steps used to cure liver disease can also be used to prevent it – even after you have healed yourself you should continue this four step program.
Step 1 – Causes
The first step is removing the causes. You should halt intake of as many toxics as possible. Avoid food with pesticides and if possible eat a lot of raw food. This is because all food contains toxic substances but raw fruit and vegetables also contain enzymes responsible for neutralizing toxics which are destroyed by heating (but not freezing).
Other important toxics to sto are tobacco, caffeine, and alcohol. If you are on drugs you should consult with your physician to make sure you are taking the minimum amount possible. Many drugs, especially for headaches, hypertension, and cholesterol, you will eventually be able to stop, but until then just work with your doctor to reduce them.
Homeopathic remedies may also damage the liver. Most physicians don’t know a lot about these remedies and homeopathic healers will swear they don’t hurt at all despite evidence that proves they do. The Internet is also not much of a help. I recommend you start with Wikipedia and read the discussion page there.
Step 2 – Intake
The second step is about changing your lifestyle. You probably heard it before: eat more fruit and vegetables and cut down on fat and processed sugar. Some studies also recommend being vegetarians, but others don’t so this is controversial and besides increasing fruit and vegetables and decreasing fat and processed sugar the rest of your diet can be the same.
Step 3 – Exercise
Another lifestyle change. Exercise signals your liver to start burning fat. When you exercise the liver burns the fat inside and then the fat inside fat cells. Not only will this step heal your liver but it will help you lose weight.
If you don’t increase your activity diet alone may worsen a fatty liver because the liver won’t start by burning the fat inside it and instead take in more fat, storing part of it.
Step 4 – Supplements
Supplements have shown amazing results that MDs first denied (mainly because the results were so strong that the medical community first believed the studies must have been biased). But as more studies proved the effects of various supplements, including the reversion of steatosis, cirrhosis, hepatitis and in some studies even liver cancer, the effects of these supplements are becoming more accepted.
Relevant herbs in these supplements are turmeric, milk thistle, and artichoke, and their active principles in synthetic drugs. Other elements are linen, ginger, and dandelion. In fact, there have been so many herbs and components identified as liver regenerators that it becomes impractical to use them if you don’t try readymade preparations.
Nonetheless, these herbs show amazing results even in people who weren’t following any of the steps above, but when they all combined it produced small miracles.
There are many supplements in the market. I recommend Liver Active – the results are the same as with the other preparations but it is much easier to use than pills or liquid preparations (it’s a spray) and it inexpensive when compared to some of the other supplements (there are some that are even less expensive but from my experience their effects are bogus).
